Can ChatGPT build a website? What ChatGPT Sites can do, and when a Ghana builder is easier
Yes, it can. Since July 2026, paid ChatGPT plans come with a feature called ChatGPT Sites. You describe a website or a small web app in the chat, and ChatGPT builds it, hosts it and gives you a link. On the free ChatGPT plan you can still ask it to write the text and the code for a website, but you then have to find a way to put it online yourself.
So should a business in Ghana build its website inside ChatGPT? In some cases, yes. Below we look at what ChatGPT Sites can do, what it needs from you, and when a builder made for Ghana is the simpler route.
What ChatGPT Sites can do
According to OpenAI's own help pages (October 2026), ChatGPT Sites can:
- Build websites and web apps from a chat, such as landing pages, small tools, dashboards and portals.
- Host them for you and give you a link to share.
- Handle sign-in and records: a Site can have its own sign-in and a database of up to 10 GB.
- Use your own domain, if you already have one.
What it needs from you
- A paid ChatGPT plan. Sites is available on ChatGPT Plus and Pro and in supported Business and Enterprise workspaces. It is not on the Free or Go plans, and building or editing a site uses up your plan's usage limits.
- A domain you already own. OpenAI says Sites does not register domains. You buy one elsewhere and change its DNS settings yourself.
- Your own payment set-up. Under the ChatGPT Sites terms, you can sell only through a third-party payment provider that you connect, and any taxes and fees are your responsibility. Card details may only be handled by that payment provider.
- Your own checking. As with any AI tool, test every page and form before you send customers to it.

If you already pay for ChatGPT Plus, you are comfortable changing DNS settings, and your site does not need to take payments, ChatGPT Sites is a reasonable option. If you want to pay in cedis, collect MoMo from your customers and have your web address set up for you, DWOMOH Build will get you there faster.
