How to accept Mobile Money payments on your website in Ghana (2026 guide)
If you sell anything online in Ghana, your customers will want to pay with Mobile Money. The good news: adding MoMo to a website is now simple and cheap. With a payment gateway such as Paystack you pay 1.95% per local transaction — MoMo included — with no setup fee, and the money lands in your bank or MoMo wallet the next working day.
This guide explains the options, the real costs and the steps.
Why Mobile Money matters for your website
Mobile Money is how Ghana pays. According to Bank of Ghana data, mobile money transactions were worth GH¢4.54 trillion in 2025, up 50.8% from 2024. In August 2026 alone Ghanaians moved GH¢518.8 billion through mobile money, across 85.8 million registered accounts (26.4 million of them active).
A website that only takes cards turns many buyers away. A website that takes MoMo lets them pay the way they already pay for everything else.
Your two options
1. "Send MoMo to this number" (manual). You show your MoMo number and confirm each payment yourself. It costs nothing to set up, but you must check every payment by hand, customers make mistakes with amounts and references, and nothing happens automatically when someone pays at night.
2. A payment gateway (automatic). The customer clicks Pay, chooses MoMo or card, approves on their phone, and your website knows instantly that the order is paid. This is what serious online shops use.
What Paystack costs in Ghana
Paystack (owned by Stripe) is one of the most widely used gateways in Ghana. Its published Ghana pricing (September 2026):
| Paystack Ghana | |
|---|---|
| Local transactions (including Mobile Money) | 1.95% |
| International cards | 1.95% (settled in cedis) |
| Setup fee / monthly fee | None |
| Settlement | Next working day (T+1), to your bank or MoMo wallet |
| Payout to a MoMo wallet | GH₵1 per payout |
| Payout to a bank account | GH₵8 per payout |
| Mobile Money networks | MTN, Telecel (formerly Vodafone), AirtelTigo |
So on a GH₵200 order you pay about GH₵3.90 in fees.
Step by step: MoMo checkout on your website
- Open a Paystack business account at paystack.com and submit your business details and ID for verification. You can build and test before you are verified.
- Get your API keys from your Paystack dashboard (Settings → API Keys & Webhooks). There is a test key for trying things out and a live key for real money. Keep the secret key private — never put it in the page itself or share it on WhatsApp.
- Add a checkout to your website. If a developer builds your site, ask for Paystack checkout with the Mobile Money channel switched on and prices in GHS (MoMo payments are in cedis). If you build it yourself with DWOMOH Build, just describe it:
“An online shop for my fabrics business in Accra with product pages, a cart and a Paystack checkout so customers can pay with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money or card”
Build this →Then add your own Paystack keys to your project, so the money goes straight to your account.
- Test with Paystack's test mode. Place a test order, pay with the test MoMo details Paystack provides, and check that the order shows as paid.
- Switch to your live key and place one small real order yourself before announcing it.
Tips that increase paid orders
- Show prices in cedis (GH₵). Customers trust prices in their own currency, and MoMo needs it.
- Confirm every order by email, SMS or WhatsApp with the order number.
- Keep the checkout short: name, phone number, delivery area — nothing more.
- Say who delivers and how much before the customer pays.
- Offer cards too for customers abroad; on Paystack Ghana, international cards cost the same 1.95%.
Bottom line
Taking Mobile Money on your website costs 1.95% per payment with Paystack, has no monthly fee, and pays you out the next working day. Set it up once and your website can sell while you sleep.
